Hiya,

Tonight our concrete base was at last completed for our log cabin. It measures 5m x 4m and is 10cm deep.

It's behind schedule - should have been completed on Tuesday and we planned to start erecting the cabin (45mm log type) this weekend.

How long should we wait to erect the cabin? Hubby says we can start as planned tomorrow but I'm dubious!!

Many thanks for reading....

it will still be soft and weak tomorrow. For example, if run a barrow across it, or dump wood on top, it will be damaged. It would be infinitely preferable to keep it moist and covered, e.g, by spraying and putting polythene on top to prevent it drying out, for two weeks. You can walk on it, barefoot, tomorrow.

What sort of floor will your cabin have?

How is the cabin to be fixed to the base?

4 inches is rather thin. What's underneath the slab?

It has compacted crushed concrete and ballast underneath - it was compacted doen with a whacker and it was very level and solid before even the concrete was poured.

The cabin is a 45mm log type, it is built on tanalised bearers and wooden floorboards go on top (with Celotex under for insulation).

It will stand the weight but if you have a float finished surface then it is likely to scuff.
