You can't get imperial lengths of string anymore.

You can still get imperial mints, though. :D

A piece of string always measures three yards, twelve centimetres, four onces, and 46 pence long

a piece of string is as twice as long from the middle to one end

Really like to help you out, but if I tried measuring it my breeks would fall down!

A piece of string measures the same lenght as a piece of bread and butter but weighs no less more than a piece of my mind.......

Hmm, is this what they call "string theory"?
