How many screwdrivers does a man need?

Pozi drivers don't fit Philips, it's the other way round but they don't fit well

Indeed, most of the "chewed up" screws I come across are the result of someone trying with the wrong screwdriver first. If the screw is loose then "anything will do", but when it's not, you need the right driver first time.

A general complaint: The "combination" heads so many manufacturers have adopted now which, supposedly, can be easily tightened with either a Phillips or a regular slotted screwdriver are mostly terrible and neither type of screwdriver fits anywhere near as securely as if they'd just use a screw designed for one or the other. Why do they make thes monstrosities? Do they really think that anyone installing, for example, a circuit breaker isn't likely to have both types of screwdriver?

On a sidenote, I did bring several screwdriver sets over to the U.S. with me from England, but the Pozi ones have been languishing unused in the toolboxes since. They might get used very occasionally at some point, as I think I have a couple of old home-made equipment cabinets with PoziDriv screws.

Then get yourself some 'plus minus' or 'modulo' screwdrivers then...
Great, they introduce a new type of screwhead with the intent that either of two existing types of screwdriver can be used, and the result is that people then need to buy a third type in order to get a proper fit.

I have had no issue using Pozi drivers with Philip screws. Sure not the best, but better than a Philips driver with a Pozi screw. Can even use flat head drivers for Pozi screws in desperate times.

PZ2 is the most common bit size that I use.

The mind boggles, but I think it's just part of the modern trend to p**s poor quality screws etc. I can only assume that either they had complaints, or "some bright spark" thought it was a good idea - and everyone else followed suit with this "great idea".

I can believe that. I find that most computer gear uses Philips heads - Posi seems to be a "european thing".

I have 7 screwdrivers in my tool bag, and rarely need anything else.
