Just about to embark on a bathroom re-tile, have estimated 20 sq yds of tiles, any one know how much tile adhesive I will need and is it best to buy separate grout or is the all in one stuff acceptable ??
Separate grout is better and go for a waterproof/mouldproof.
The bag will give you a guide as to how much it will cover but this can vary wildly depending on how much you gouge the dried adhesive out between the tiles.
You need to remove any adhesive that will be proud of the grout. If you're going to use a grout finisher (basically a small plastic ball-on-a-stick) bear in mind the extra depth this will reveal.
But leave it at that or you will have to use loads more grout.
For a rough estimate - work on 3.5 - 4sq metres for a pre-mixed tub of wall adhesive and 4 - 4.5sq metres for powdered floor adhesive.
Obviously, if your surface is uneven then the figure will be reduced.
