Hey guys,

I've worked out we need 1.6m3 of concrete for the log cabin base.

I've just found out the readymix price, but want to work out the cost to mix ourselves.

Any ideas how to work out how much ballast and cement we'll need? Must be a simple calculation to it?

You will need aboot 3 tonne of ballast and 20 x 25kg bags of dust.

Should cost in the realms of £200 - £250 depending how and where you shop.

Thanks.
Working on wickes prices its only about £20 more to have mixamate!

How did you come up with those amounts?

Cheers

I've done some work in concrete, ballast is approx £32 for a bulk bag (850-900kg)
and the bags of cement (25kg) were around £3.80 a bag.

If you google concrete mix calculator, you can find some online tools to help you do the sums as well.

I found wickes to be expensive for the total price compared to other builders merchants. Try calling round a few "local" yards.

I buy a lot off this and get 1 ton of 10mm gravel for around £38 and 1 ton of river sand for about the same.

The cement I have found wickes do a deal on 5 bags for a cheap price.
