Hi Folks

I'm thinking of painting the walls and ceilings of my home.

Can someone kindly tell me how to calculate the number of cans of paint that I would need?

Thanks

Roughly measure the dimension of each wall and ceiling. You will then be able to work out the number of square metres.

Most tins of paint will show the number of square metres that one litre will cover.

As a rough guide I assume that a 5L tin of matt emulsion paint will be sufficient for the walls in an "average" bedroom large enough to accommodate one double bed. 2.5L will be enough for the ceiling. 1L of oilbased eggshell will easily provide 2 coats of paint to the woodwork

Cheaper/thinner paints may however require more than 2 coats of paint.
