I'm considering boarding up my attic

Someone told me that would cost me about £500 to do - including parts and labour

That sounds a lot to me - but is this a good estimation?

Size of house: I would say it's an average sized semi detached

Any estimates for the cost would be great

Thanks

square area required plus any other work involved like insulation or wires that need relocating moving etc
i assume its for light storage only??

thanks for the reply - instant notifications of replies don't seem to be coming through to me - i would have replied sooner

i've had a look... and i'd say it was roughly 35sqm
(does that sounds too much?)

i thin my best bet would be to get someone to have a look and estimate

though - i don't want to splash out right now

for light storage for now - for that, i might as well buy a few boards and board up myself as and when needed?
is that a good or bad idea?

if your joists are 4x2" then they are not suitable except for light storage
if you are planning on habitable use later then you need to comply with building regs as possibly need to install 8 or 9x2 " to comply with regs

4x2"?
now u've got me thinking
what's that?
thanks

Are the joists in the loft (the ones holding up your bedroom ceilings!) approx 2" wide (as you look down on them) and 4" deep? If so they are only suitable for storing a few bits and bobs. Dont go boarding it and then filling it with trunks full of books.

If the joists are 6x2 however, they will be stronger and more able to take the weight.

thanks for the reply
they're definitely bigger than 2"
but, they're not as thick as in other lofts I've been upto

I'd say that they were maybe 4" thick

I was thinking of just getting some thin wood and putting down - not even nailing down - and then using for storage space
