Hi All,

I have tried to rewire my bathroom light - the light works but the rest of the upstairs lights have now stopped working. Please see image. Thanks in advance. I have put the switched live in with other 2 lives and 2 neutrals together. I have terminated the earths.

One of the black wires will be neutral.

You will need a multimeter to see which wire is what.

I have a mains tester screwdriver and showing those three are live. This is how I currently have it wired. TIA

Three on the right of the picture - there is an extractor fan so I think one of the wires could be for this. Thanks

The red wires coming from the ceiling from the right; send a picture of them.

Are they all connected together?

They don’t seem to be connected together. I’ve checked and the extractor fan is on a separate pull cord so don’t think this is powered by these wires. Thanks

Before you go any further, are you sure there isn't a breaker in the off position?

You will need a multimeter. You need to check which wires are which. There are live wires that are live all the time (loop) which are connected to each other but not to anything else, there are live wires that are only live when the switch is or switches are closed which are connected only to the live of the fitting, and there are neutrals only connected to N.

You have broken the circuit to the rest of the lights. Check with a multimeter if the red wires are live.

Turn the power off, before you start....

My guess, and it has to be a guess, is - Connect all of those blacks into one terminal, except the one with the red tape. Call that terminal your neutral terminal and connect the blue. Fit the black with the red tape, into a terminal, with the brown, call that the switch wire.

Thanks - my mains tester screwdriver was showing the two I had put in with the red tape
wire were live.

That is because they are intended to be neutrals, but they are not connected to the neutral - which is why your other lights are not working..
