How to attach vertical restraint straps when using Safety Fast Hangers on flat roof

Hi all,

I'm rebuilding a single skin garage with flat warm roof.

To minimise the height of the fascia board I'm looking to use Simpson Safety Fast Hangers on the top of the top brick course instead of using a wall plate and resting the joists on top.

How do you attach vertical restraint straps?

The L strap normally attaches to the wall plate, or use a twisted strap to attach to the joist, but the hanger sits at the place the joist would meet the twisted strap.

Why are you not just placing the joists straight on top of the masonry? I can’t see hangers being useful.

Cosmetic - Due to it's position I am looking to achieve a more minimal look without massive fascia boards.

It eliminates the need for a large fascia board around the three kerb sides of the garage roof, resulting in a simpler appearance with just a ~90mm black trim from the EPDM above brick. Visually similar to a parapet wall.

I'm intending to attach the hangers on the long side of the garage, and use a wall plate on the gutter edge side, which is not visible.
The wall will be topped with a wall plate & thin OSB to bond the EPDM and trim to.
To avoid a vertical join of the EPDM on the inside of the brick course on the short sides, I'm also intending to add a beveled trim.
