Hi all

How can I clean lime render, drops of paint off this slate step? Ive tried scraping the render off with a redundant plastic bank card (so as not to scratch). And tried water with kitchen sponge. Not having much luck. Anything else I can try?

Thanks

You could try a paint stripper in an inconspicuous area, then gently try to scrub it off. But if it is difficult to remove ingrained paint so if unsuccessful consider flipping the slate, replacing it or bedding a new piece on top of the old.

Thanks. Im not too fussed about the paint (although obviously nice to remove them). Theyre the small white flecks. I will certainly try what you suggest.
Its more the lime plaster around the edges either side. I tried wiping the plaster off with a wet sponge, which has left streaks. Certainly better than what it was. But perhaps theres a better way(?)

Hydrochloric Acid will dissolve the lime- be conservative and careful, and don't breath it in!
Sold as spirit of salts or brick acid - find the smallest container you can.
