ok here`s the thing my m8 give me his old cooker (oven and hob) theres a wire coming from the oven part but none from the hob how do i connect the oven to the hob then into the main socket on the wall ?? im LOST :(

can i put a plug onto the wire from the oven and connect the hob to the main ?

im sorry im must sound a real dumbazz. :(

i just need to know in what order to put the wire into the hob.
any help would be fantastic

Is it a "cooker" where the hob is part of the same appliance as the oven, or is it two separate appliances?

Have you got a digital camera, and can you put up a picture
(or if not, a description) of:

The hob
The oven
the makers rating plate which you will find either round the back near the wires, or inside the oven door.

It will say things like
-220/250v
-50Hz
-5kW
-5000W
-25Amps
-Moffat cookers Ltd
-Indesit SA
-Approval No 1234
-Model IM954
-Made in Thailand
-Date of Manufacture Feb 1953

It is usually a silvery metal plate, rivetted on, with a combination of printed, engraved and stamped numbers on it

Also:
The Cooker Switch and wall outlet (these are likely to be be separate).

Does the wall outlet look like an ordinary 13Amp socket, or like a plain white plastic plate with an entry slot at the bottom?
How big is the wire coming out of the oven, and what is it attached to (can you see terminals inside a plastic box? Is the wire a flex or is it a whitish or grey flat oval?

its in 2 parts oven and hob it says

thor eletrical
mod:eletrical 50/1
matr.00020003
pa04maadbb1550
cod.048316001

230v~

ipxo
6000 w 50 hz

the wire at the back of the oven is 6 foot long with 3 wires on it black red and a copper 1
the socket on the wall is a white 1 with a entry slot at he bottom
under the hob is a black plastic box with red black brown and white wires going into it there are 6 screws going down into the box.

my thought so far was put the 3 wires (red black and the copper 1 )from the oven into the black box under the hob then with another wire (5 foot long red black and copper 1 ) same as 1 from oven into the black plastic box also then other end into socket in the wall.

im a diy disaster waiting to happin lol :)

I think you may be getting out of your depth

(Could it be "Thorn Electrical?")

It says 6000W

That means 6 kW which is about 26 Amps. That is more than an ordinary oven would take so I deduce it is either the hob, or the whole lot.
as you say it is two separate appliances then there must be a separate plate on the oven (a photo would really help).

You should now go to your consumer unit/fusebox.

Look for a fuse or MCB labelled "cooker". It may be marked with two red or yellow spots, or it may say "30A" or "B32" or something like that on it. Let us know what it says. Also please say what brand the consumer unit is, and its colour (this is not a joke) and how many fuses or MCBs there are. There will probably be a label or engraving on or next to the Main Switch saying something like "Max Load not to Exceed.." 63A or 80A or 100A

p.s. I am concerned about the "under the hob is a black plastic box with red black brown and white wires going into it there are 6 screws going down into the box." as I don't know what all the wires are for. The oven sounds fairly easy.

Are there any markings by the terminals in this box? a photo would really help. Do you know anyone with a digital camera?

i maybe able to get a camera tomarrow ill try get the pics and post them :)

thank you so much for all this help .
