How to cover cables exiting floor near consumer unit

Hi

I have a small opening in the corner of the floor of a storage room, directly below the consumer unit. Several cables come through this opening and run off to other rooms.

The rest of the floor is hardwood, and I’d like to cover or protect this area so it’s tidy and safe, but still accessible if needed. I was initially thinking about expanding foam, but I’m not sure if that’s appropriate around electrical cables.

What would be the correct way to cover or protect this area? It will be covered by a carper with underlay.

A couple of battens screwed to the wall and some MDF/ply to cover would do.
If you want to make it removable, paint it before final fix and then use screws and screw cups

I don't feel very comfortable drilling into the wall. Also, it is a bit 'crumbly.

It does not to support any weight. Could I just attach it to the existing board? Or use some kind of 'feet' and avoid any fixing?

You could construct an L shaped screen ?
Make it heavier at the base so it is less likely to fall over

Use gripfill to fix battens rather than screws?
Potentially paint the crumbly wall with a sealant T stabilise the wall before gripfill

Thanks for the advice. I think I will go with the screen option. See the new pictures.

- You can see the joist on the right. I will screw one part there
- It will be free standing on the left, just on the right of the gas pipe
- I will cut it so it goes around the wires.
