How to cut down very high hedge?

Got 5 or 6 metre high hedge (the laurel in background)and want to bring it down a metre or two. The ground has sawn off trunks as you can see in photos. Would a small tower be best?

A tower would be safest, I would use a ladder leaning on it, as I'm a tight R's

No, no, no. forget all that, take it down to 18 inches, chainsaw is good, it is nigh on impossible to kill laurel.
