How to fit new door here?

Hello

We've had a half wall and timber door/window taken down which has resulted in a gap in the floor and the wall. I'm considering DIY'ing a bifold door in here, but unsure as to how to make the cavity good to accept the frame?

If I close off the cavity in the wall with bricks, that will create thermal bridging won't it?

Does the frame sit "in" the cavity, between the two leafs, or attached to the external leaf? We have a large slider door in the adjacent room and thats set back from the outer leaf, and appears to sit in the cavity, but i'm not sure what its attached to?

At the top of this photo, you can see the gap that the original frame sat in, and thats inline with the cavity. It just seems to be blocked off with thermalite blocks. Should I do the same for the lower half?

For this trench, i'm going to put a DPM sheet in and then fill with mortar - is that ok?

Thanks

Dig out a few brick in floor and dpm and concrete.
Cut wall back and face off with blocks tied in to existing walls either side of cavity.
That's not an external wall?

Open up the cavities on the sides and fit a cavity closer

Fit the new frame where you want, if you want it aligned with the cavity then use frame fixing straps, which you screw to the door set before it slides into the opening

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh didn't realise you could get straps. NOW it makes sense. Thank you mate.

This is new to me- do you have links? Tnx

Frame cleats and or snappers, both done for speed in fitting usually on new builds, if your fitting over a cavity even over a cavity closer then use cleats especially if there's some plastering involved

Just to update this, decided to get someone in to fit the door rather than try and DIY it. They are fensa and it's an external rated Origin bifold going in. Is going to be fitted in line with the external breeze block constructed outer leaf, and the floor, and screwed into the catnic lintel above. The cavity has been closed off with a cavity closer. There are wall ties holding the inter thermalite block wall with the outer breeze block wall. The reveal will be approx 15mm.

I wasn't sure about fitting to the external leaf but the fitters say that's better than attempting to fit it to the thermalite blocks.

The lintel is a catnic apparently, and the holes for the bifold will be drilled to the right hand side of this exposed part. Is that okay, or will it weaken it?
