Hi
We are soon to have a large floor area tiled and we are going to remove the wood skirting boards and replace them with tile upstands. The problem we are having is finding tiles with edges that are suitable to be seen.
We've been told that we need tiles that are the same colour throughout so the top edge of the upstand looks ok but all the tiles we are receiving as samples have a top coating/glaze that is much darker than the under layer and so cant really be used as upstands.
Is there a work around for this? Can i apply some sort of paint or glaze to the sides that will be on show? Something that wont come off?
I'll attach a pic of a tile i just received so you can see what i mean if im not explaining myself very well - top 3mm dark brown bottom 6mm paler.
sorry the pic is upside down
Thanks
