Hi all,

After discovering someone has been prowling around in our back garden, we have decided to install a steel gate between our garage and house (its only 95cm wide).

The problem is the garage is made of brick and the house is roughcast with brink on the underside.

The gate has 2 hinges and a hasp for locking. What is the best way to secure the hinges onto the roughcast and the hasp onto the bare brick?

Just dont want to start drilling and have the roughcast start to pull off the wall!

Thanks all.

fix a piece of timber to each wall first and then fix the ironmongery to the timber battens.

plug and screw.

if the roughcast is particularly uneven then you could carefully bolster chisel the surface, directly beneath the batten, until you have something acceptable.

or, you could use a new foam fixing adhesive to secure the batten to the wall, then mechanically fix the batten once the foam has hardened. the foam in this instance would merely act as a levelling spacer. the batten would need propping.

this is the stuff.
