Morning everybody from icy N Ireland... it occurs to me that I might have to get access to the external water main stopcock, but the last time I did this was decades ago, and the big key thing I've had since then doesn't fit in the kind of cover I have at this house.

Could anybody please tell me what kind I need to buy to lift my current cover?

Thanks

It’s only plastic, so a thin bladed screwdriver in the lid groove where it meets the chamber riser.

I thought it looked like it screws down, and the two slots are for a tool?

Anyway, your local water co will know for sure, and might even supply a tool.

There is a link to the tool for opening it on https://photos.google.com/share/AF1...&key=RzdKYUk2Q1JxNXpiMnZmcmJxcThadjJuM2xtM2dR

He says

"We were given a tool for opening the water meter cover when we moved in to our house in the early 90's. Our meter cover looks identical to the one you pictured. I've checked and the distance between the centres of each jaw is 4 inches.

Apologies for the link but can't work out how to post image direct in to thread

Couldn't find anything on-line that matched for sale, but it could easily be made with a length of flat bar"
