It's personal choice. Building in and hangers are both acceptable practice. Personally I don't like building in so I would specify hangers. But I wouldn't lose sleep over it either way. To the OP - I would use whatever method has been specified for the rest of the floor.

I agree it is more of a personal choice. I will specify both, dependant on the situation.
I was intrigued as to why others would say its 'good design practice' to sit a joist in a hanger ?
