How to remove and clean Discharge Safety Valve on glowworm 24ci boiler

Steady drip from knurled union nut on the discharge safety valve pipe, leading to the outside. Boiler loses pressure over a few days. Had a new external expansion vessel plumbed in which has cured the previous big problem, but the steady drip remains - a niggle needing a cure.
Does the whole system need draining down to remove this valve? Is it as simple as pulling out the protruding clip and wiggling the valve free (after disconnecting the compression join

ts to the outside!)?

Yes.

But any boiler engineer would replace it !

Never worth trying to clean it, it probably won't work and is too much hassle. Best to just get a new one

I think what I was hoping to get a grip on is this - why is there a drip of water (into the kitchen) coming from the knurled nut, when it has no better path to gravity than the free-to-air tube that ends outside?

Why?
