Hi there,

To my horror the kitchen worktop beside sink our sink where dishes etc would dry has started to get covered in an ingrained black type fungus. Any ideas how I can remove and permenantly prevent this from happening again ?

Many thanks
Mully

A propriatory fungal killer - such as you might use for the shower - would work, or a solution of bleach. The problem you face is that this could also bleach the wood. A test patch would be a good idea. You should be able to get a fungal killer from a good supermarket or DIY shop/store.

If your worktops are made from unteated timber, which I guess they must be, then in the future you need to either a)keep them scrupulously clean and bleach periodically, or b) seal them with varnish or laquer.
