How to remove this grub screw/pin to remove door hinge?

Hi all,

Door hasn't been closing properly only to discover the door is sagging a little as the screw has come loose at the top bracket/hinge. I can't access the screw due to the hinge. Problem is the grub was old and rusted. I cleaned it, tried Allen key, then used a screw extraction with no luck. Even tried tapping the **** out of it from below.

Is there any other methods I can try please? I figure I just need to remove the pin/hinge and the. I can screw in the bracket to the door so it's flush to stop it sagging.

Yes, tried with a smallish flathead to fit the pin and hammered from below. It moved about a couple of mm but nothing now. That was with some 'good hammering strength'. Not hardest I can as I was afraid it would break the hinge or something.

The grub screw is just there to stop the pin riding up over time and for security, the pin will have a groove or shoulder in it which lines up with the grub screw, you'll need to drill out what's left of it before the pin will knock up

Similar to why I haven't dremeled it, I'm worried it'll damage the thread so I won't be able to screw in a new grub. Is there a high risk of it and if so, would it be a big loss not to have a grub screw holding that pin down in the future?

Hi,

I've tried Dremel but couldnt get it to bite with a screwdriver so proceeded to drill the grub nut out.

I'm pretty sure I've drilled a big enough hole to get it all out and believe I've even hit the pin.

But the ****er just won't come out. Ove hammered it from the bottom and it's not budging 1mm

Any more ideas please?

Well judging by the corrosion on the hinge body it's likely seized in there, looks like the pin is higher than it should be so will the pin knock down? If so try knocking it up and down to possibly loosen it, failing that you may need to just cut it off completely and replace the hinge or hinges

Problem solved. As the screws were loose on the door side, the door is hanging and was creating force on the pin (the middle section of the hinge was pulling away from the frame side of the hinge). I jacked the door up and tried to position it so it wasn't generating much force on the pin.

Pins now hammered out, bracket screwed back in and door is working like new. Getting the hinge back on was a bit of a pain but managed to do it with the help of a jack.
