Hello all!

Just writing this as I am not a plumbing whizz but would like to seek some advice and give a crack at a small problem I've got.

Under my sink, I have the u-bend pipe and a small adjoining pipe which is currently unconnected (I think it was used for a washing machine?) but when I pour any liquid down the sink it comes all at once through the adjoining pipe rather than through the main pipe (if that makes sense).

Would I just need to fit a stop end cap on the adjoining pipe to stop the liquid coming through this way?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Presumably you are talking about something like this? http://www.screwfix.com/p/sink-washing-machine-trap-40mm/12794

So the answer is yes. If you cannot find the blank which fits inside the washing machine union where it joins the main trap then just use a small piece of plastic bag sandwiched by the union as a temporary fix so you can use the sink safely without risking damage by the loss of water.

That's right, mate. Almost identical...

Will give it a go and see how I get on. Thanks for the reply :D
