I took off the radiator last year in my living room to decorate and have purchased a new one of a different size. It comes with a diverter spring and TRV and instructions say it needs to be on the flow side. The problem is I can't tell which the flow side is, as the pipes to the old radiator (that have been capped off) are both cold when I turn the heating on. I have pulled up a few floor boards and felt the pipes underneath but the pipes are still cold both sides. Is there another way to tell?

How to tell direction of flow for new radiator

Join the two valves together with some temporary bodge plastic pipe, open valves and turn heating on, you'll know then.
just a DIYer , but i have changed a few radiators at my home and for others , I get TRV valves that are bi-directional, from screwfix or toolstation in past (often comes with radiator)

It's the rad that needs to have baffle on flow. Nothing to do with trv.
