I have a similar problem with my alarm system. When I cut the mains, no alarm. When I power back up, the alarm goes off and it's deafening.
I recently opene the box up and found a 12v battery inside as others have mentioned.
If you are looking for a quick fix just to stop the alarm from going off while you cut the light fuse, I suggest you open the alarm unit up and disconnect the battery.
That battery HAS to be connected to prevent the external siren from self-activating. It requires 12volt to HOLD OFF the alarm. The external bell box has a battery aswell!!
I suspect that vern is actually HamBurglar in disguise.
What you need to do is disable the fish and micro chips on the breadboard. Watch out for static though, or they may become Kentucky Fried. Should be a pitza cake.
