I have a B&Q Dial 2 way outdoor switch as per the picture.
I have 1 4ft batten led light in the garage, and I want the switch near the garage door.

There is a wire from the light to the switch, and another wire from a plug, into a double mains socket, also to the switch.

I have then 2 lives and 2 neutrals. What do I connect to what on switch.

I have tried live from plug to the com socket, and the live from the light to 1 way socket, then tied both neutrals together in a choc block.
Needless to say, the light doesn't light up.

Can someone give me an idiots guide on how to do this.

No you don't. You have 1 line, 2 neutrals, and a switched line. Don't you have any earth wires? You should.

Having said that what you have done (wire descriptions excepted) should give light.

BUT. What is that bulge on the wire connected to the COM on the switch? Looks like a resistor or small choke. That will stop it working.

What is that bulge on the wire connected to the COM

That is a resistor controlling the current through the locator neon lamp. As wired the locator lamps glows when the switch is OFF ( a ""Neutral"" feed comes via the lamp (*) and the switched Live from the lamp. )

(*) many energy saving lamps will not allow ""Neutral"" through them in which case the licator neon will not light.

How do I have 1 live when there are 2 cables with 1 live and 1 neutral in each cable.
Yes, what I have done doesn't turn the light on when I press or flick the switch

Because one of the cables has a switched wire not a live. The cables do not know what colour they are.

Ok, so can you tell me what I should do now please. As I say, I am no electrician.

No, and I have just checked it and get a reading of around 5.4 ohms on a fluke meter on the 3 amp fuse

Yes sure you can, and I hope this is ok and clear enough. Suffice to say it doesn't work in this configuration

That looks correct as far as the light is concerned. So something else must be wrong.

Thanks, so I have wired it correctly. I'll put a meter across the wires etc tomorrow morning to check there is continuity.
