Hey guys and gals,

I have an existing outdoor light that runs off a mains plug thats plugged into a wall socket inside the house. The switch on the wall socket is always turned on and seems silly to have it plugged into a wall socket as I'm always unplugging it to plug other appliances in.

What would I need to run the outdoor light from a 2 way light switch inside the house? Would it be as simple as using some new lighting 1mm2 twin and earth cable, and wiring it in to the 2way switch in the house?

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply.

To be honest though, I don't know what a FCU fed is sorry. Any chance of expanding on it?

Depending on how you lighting circuit is wired in the first place depends if you can run another light from the switch.
Most lighting circuits are looped at the roses but some are looped at the switches, meaning you have a perm live and neutral.
If your lighting is looped at the switch then yes you `could` wire your light from the switch (if you also replace the 1 or 2 gang switch with a 3 gang switch)

REMEMBER...
You can only extend if the max Zs for said circuit isnt taken beyond its limit.
As Breezer says the easiest way is to use an FCU taken from the double plug socket.
What this entails is running a length of cable from the back of the plug socket (using the same size cable as is used in the socket) to the desired spot for your switched FCU (switched is used for functional switching and isolation,to a degree) then running a length of 1 or 1.5mm twin and earth cable to your security light(running these new cables in the correct zones or using the required protection if this isnt possible).
