How to wire spotlights

So your not telling me becuase you think I'm not competent to follow simple instructions because I hadn't taken note of the reference section in the forum which was no use to me anyway

The 'sticky' post 'Read Here First - FAQ - For Reference', at the top of the Electrics UK forum contains all the information you need. Breezer's concern is that if you are not prepared to (or can't) work out what you want from that then you are probably straying beyond your limits.

The ref section tells me what to do if I want to add one row but you guys are saying I need to "rewire" for three rows and I don't think that is mentioned in the reference section because rewire is a very broad term and could mean many things

you will have to rewire it, your existing set up (which is normal) can only be used for the supply, nothing else.

as i said you can only use it to supply the lights, you can not use the existing wiring to switch 3 sets of new lights individualy, all at the same time you can

Breezer, do think you were a bit abrupt- the above is hardly easy to follow - call me stupid but I can't make it out even now!!

your "quote" missed the important bit, "see the refernce section", which we spent the next umpteen posts saying.

but as it soon became aparent the op appears to be too incometant to do the job any way

Thank you for your help

I'll be on holiday for the next 5 days, but please could you post what needs to be rewired and how I would do it for it to be possible to have three rows individually switched

thank you for ur help

EDIT - Breezer please could you tell me which post in the ref section will tell me how to "rewire" so that I can have three rows of individually switched spotlights

made it as simple as i could. hope this is of use.

You really, really, really should have been able to work that out for yourself.

The fact that you couldn't shows that you don't understand yet how lighting circuits are wired, and therefore you shouldn't be doing things like this yet.

Installing electrical wiring should not be done on the basis of "insert wire A into terminal B" without an complete understanding of why...

that is what I thought I should do, but things like not being able to spur off spur when talking about sockets made me think twice before just going ahead with this mayBe I sould have said that's basically what I thought was appropriate, but could you tell me if there is any problems with that

and what if i do want to do it from the sockets - stupid I know, but I'm sure there would be a few ways that work, but only one(or not even any since it's lighting) that's right

EDIT - I do understand how the circuits work
