How is the csa of cable worked out :?:

depends what you want. CSA from the diameter or a conductor?

CSA from the overall size of the cable etc etc?

The CrossSection Area is just that.
Section it, i.e. cut it with something sharp, and you see a circle.
Measure area of circle, with calibrated graticule microscope or similar.
Or if you have micrometers measure diameter, half it to get radius, and then do Pi*r2
Or cut a bit off, and hold it up to the reels in Band Q and se what it is the same as..
Or, as suggested, see if it is written on it (but not all makers do)

note that in the UK, unlike the rest of the world, the earth core is smaller than the live and neutral cores, so '2.5mmsq' is really 2.5mm foro Live and Neutral, but 1.5mmSQ for the earth etc.
We do this to make our wiring more dangerous than foreign,, to compensate for our fused plugs that make it safer  These last two statements are untrue.
