How would you do your downlighters if you had a room of average size if you had 6 lights. At work we measure the room and divide by 4 because we put up two rows of three i was told that the proper way to measure is to divide two numders extra than the amount of lights you intend to put in a line...ie the distance from wall to first light would be shorter than first to second light due to overlappin light

in case you dont understand we divide by four if we were puttin three in a line divide by seven if we put six in a line

Why are you asking if you know already? I don't understand.

we stick bits of tape on the ceiling where ever looks right for the room, and then just square them up with a tape measure and chalk line.

It's much quicker, and if you position them just by dividing the room up they can end up looking daft (like if you have doors, windows, fireplace etc, and the DL ends up off centre)
