We've moved into a house with the above pre finished doors with the label on top saying don't use stains oils or wax on them. Some of them have marks that need sorting out, any recommendations of how best to sort them out. (I'm assuming they're a solvent finish but can't be sure) Wiping with a damp cloth to get rid of emulsion splashes has taken the finish off as well.

FWIW I have had these doors, and used Fiddies Hard Wax Oil, the doors haven't delaminated.

Wondering if they have been coated in something like teak oil, as this marks when it gets drops of water on it.

Why not sand down one of the edges of the door to test whatever finish you want to apply.

Varnish is probably the safest option, but not something I've used on doors.
