I went to install an oven today.

The total load of the oven is 2,075W

Here is a snippet from the installation manual:

How come it is ok to run the oven on 1.5mm² flex in Europe, yet in the UK it needs a 2.5mm² flex?

I work out the loading to a smidge over 9A, so by my book it would be good for a 1.0mm²

(I fitted 1.5mm²)

Also why in the hell were the connections on torx screws? What a PITA. had to go all the way back to the van for my torx bits.

Look at the size of the wiring inside the oven.

Possible 1 mm on that neutral.

It is a case of the UK erring on the side of ( excessive ) caution.

Or maybe european copper is better than UK copper :)

Yes, the design current is nine amps resistive - You can very safely run such a load off a B10 MCB Breaker, with 1.5.sq.mm cable. little point of using anything bigger then ten amps for this type of resistive equipment!

We use Amtech for all our certificates, and also for the cable calc software.

We all got given a PDA with the certificate software on, to fill out certificates on site onto the PDA, then at the office plug it in and hey presto a certificate.

It was a right royal PITA. We have reverted to hand written certs on site, then typed onto the PC by the office staff.

On the subject of software, on my laptop I've got the wintex software for programming Texecom alarm panels. Its superb.

I've not tried PDA's but I've have tried down loading flukes and meggers and that's also a right royal PITA so I do the same for EIC's but MW's get sent straight out hand written.

Anyone use this sofware?

10/10 (smart arse)

I must admit, I still prefer the Dos based Melsec than the windows based Melsoft and I still program in instruction as opposed to ladder.

I have never had to try writing software in script thankfully, some of our PLCs use it, thankfully I don't need to get that involved in that side!! The most I have ever done is write some software for modicons in ladder, the odd LOGO, alpha/mitsubitshi module in their own software, pretty simple stuff really.

I like the Mitsi's.I use the FXGP-win software.Havn't upgraded to GX developer yet though.Omron and Siemens stretch the old grey matter a bit more though!
