Hello

I have a question regarding what impacts humidity in a flat (excluding the sources of humidity such as people, cooking, showering). I was wondering if it's the type of construction or location that mostly drives humidity, as I have been tracking humidity over my last 3 flats in London.

- Period conversion, top floor flat, single wall, single glazing, mildly leafy area of London (Zone 2), humidity was 60% or so
- Modern built flat, 1990's, insulated cavity walls, double glazing, mid-floor, central central London (no trees anywhere), humidity was 50% or less
- 1960s block, cavity walls not insulated, top floor, all double glazing, close to the woods, lots of trees, London Zone 3, humidity is 70% or more, only in the summer with the windows fully open it would go down to 55-60%.

So since we are the same 2 people and same living habits, same cooking and showering habits, I have to narrow it down either to construction type or location.

Does the type of construction affect humidity levels? Are more modern blocks better at dealing with humidity?
What about living in Central London as opposed to close to the woods?

Thanks

I have seen evidence to suggest that the location of the flat in respect to whether it is ground floor, mid or top floor has a large bearing.

The age of the construction may also be a factor.

The worst flats i have seen regards black spot mould are on the ground floor of a three storey block. These were both of cavity construction built in the late '70s.

It got me thinking that perhaps all the flats in the block were contributing to the moisture content but this manifested itself on the bottom flat.

Mebbe......?
