Hi All,

Complete novice here when it comes to solving plumbing problems. Basically I just wanted some advise before calling in an Expert. Whenever we draw some hot water from the tap a few seconds later a humming / vibration noise is heard through the house.
It stops after a few minutes, something to do with the cistern I guess! When I depress the ball valve in the cistern and let water in the noise stops but as soon as I release the ball valve the noise returns.
Any advise please?

Replace ball valve and float, consider using a torpeck valve for quiet operation. Once had a valve that sounded like a french horn going off ina block of flats , all the neighbours complained.

I would imagine that the copper pipe that is feeding the ball valve is not secured properly, Renew the ball valve with a brass one and make sure the pipe is secured, I dont like using torbeck valves for the cold water tank because they are very slow filling-ok if you have a large tank, also you can fit 2 metres of plastic pipe before the tank instead of the copper, this will stop the water hammer.
