I've a steel kitchen sink which has ended up coated in lime plaster -
I'm using 32% hydrochloric acid (spirit of salts) to clean it off, which seems to be working really well.

I'm thinking of using the hydrochloric also on the mixer tap, which looks like a chrome finish - I'm intending to try a small amount somewhere relatively unobtrusive to start, but i'm a bit nervous about it.

Anyone tried it? Any thoughts?

Thank you, much appreciated, Stephen

I did once try a commercial lime-scale remover (unhelpfully I can't recall the brand and don't know the content) on a chromed tap. I left the tap nozzle immersed in the stuff overnight and woke to find a nice bare brass tap nozzle!
Try the HCl on a bit of scrap chrome first.
