I have an ideal combi C28 boiler (7 years old). In milder weather the heating doesn't turn on when the timer clicks on (its been fine all winter but autumn and spring it starts). Running the hot tap kick starts it but not always. Hot water is working ok. When the CH is off, the boiler tries to light up, ignites then immediately turns off - repeatedly. I've had two plumbers look at it and neither can fix it - any help would be most gratefully received!

It will more than likely be down to dry joints on the ignition PCB
either resolder them if the board isnt too damaged or replace it

It sounds like a gas setting related fault.

Better to get a boiler engineeer to diagnose the fault rather than a plumber!

Apologies Agile...they were gas engineers. My error. What do you mean by the gas setting? Its come on this evening and then just turned itself off again. Had to kick start with the hot tap three times.

check the thermistors they may have gone into frost proction mode

The forum rules dont allow us to give advice on gas work as that should be done by registered gas engineers.

The settings I have in mind are unfortunately not well understood by some gas engineers as the training only covers being safe to work with gas and does not cover boiler fault finding.

The fact that neither of the two people you have had were unable to diagnose a simple boiler fault implies that they were not very experienced at boiler repairs.

You need somebody who specialises in combi boiler repairs.

the external controls should be volt free if they are not volt free, then this will damage the logic pcb that causes this fault your talking about.

have they adjusted any of the dip switchs on the pcbs they fitted?
