Hi all, My parents have an ideal classic boiler lx ff260 I believe. Its been working great all these years and gets serviced at least once a year on its insurance,However I have noticed it has been buzzing lately and not firing up, It doesn't do this all the time, but on some days it will buzz for about 5 or 10 minutes then sort itself out and fire up and work normally again.

Could this be the fan wearing out?. is there some kind of safety feature inside the boiler kicking in, so if the fan or something isn't working properly it stops the gas supply?. if that makes sense.

thanks

Yes probably the fan, but its not a diy job as its inside the combustion chamber.

Does indeed sound like the fan. In the old days they could sometimes be restored by re-lubricating the bearings but as it's inside the CC best not to touch it.

Not just "best not to touch it" but contrary to the Gas Regulations for anyone not qualified to open the combustion chamber.

Particularly for parents or other third parties its very foolish for any DIYer to touch anything where a dangerous or even fatal situation could be caused.

thanks guys, Don't worry I have no intention on doing this myself, like I say its on the insurance, so If did it I would be breaking the law and no doubt invalidate the insurance, I don't want that to happen. British gas will come and have a look at it, just needed pointed in the right direction to what the problem may be and as I guessed it was indeed the fan. cheers
