Is it normal for a boiler not to have a pressure gauge and filling loop?

I wanted to top it up to see If that helps with the noise but I don't see any way of doing it.

Any ideas?

If the boiler is fed from a small tank ( usually in the loft), there will not be a pressure gauge

It could be an open-vented system, using a small, automatically topped up, tank in the loft. Check that tank, has around 3" of water in it - that the fill valve has not seized/stuck closed.
