Hi,
New to this forum and have searched previous topics but would like to post my problem:
Combi boiler not working, when power on, trips house RCCB.
Started yesterday, tripped out.
I then turned off central heating, and bolier powered up, with hot water only.
Later central heating turned on, and worked for a couple of hours, then tripped again.
Now, trips every time try to turn on, even with central heating off.
I took out the heating controls/timer box, no difference.
I took out the thermostat controls, again no difference.

An engineer visited this morning, he did not appear familiar with this type of boiler, but confirms mains power ok all the way to Control unit.
As Easter weekend, said will order a replacement Control unit on tuesday, also bring a PCB in case that is the fault.

Searching on here, other Ideal boilers have had PCB/Control unit problems caused by the fan, has anyone had a similar problem to this?

Many Thanks
Richard

I would be more inclined to think of a faulty wire or something
somewhere. Could even be in the house wiring to the socket
for the boiler. I would try running it from a plug first.

PCB is a very weak point on these boilers. The Orange pcb
are supposed to be more reliable. But even so I would
not be inclined to think this would be causing the problem.

Personally any fault on these boilers that isn't a quick cheap
fix is an excuse to get rid of these awful boilers. Straight
to the skip. You will thank me later.

Engineers dont just casually pass by and knock on the door!

Someone must have called him and I expect he needs to be paid too.

Although he seems to have little knowledge of diagnosing faults and probably does not justify getting paid when he has not identified the fault.

I would suggest a competent engineer is called to identify the problem which could well be external to the boiler.

Do you have a RCCD or an RCD ?

this boiler doesnt have a orange pcb

pump, fan and wiring should be chekced by a rgi.

The most likely suspect has to be the Pump, although as engineerman has said, fan PCB & wiring can also be suspects, we have just weighed in a 6 year old ISAR at the scrapyard (it was cheaper to fit a Remeha than repair the ISAR!) ;)

Its quite easy with these boilers simply to unplug everything from the pcb,and plug it back in again until the problem occurs, usually pump, possibly fan,or diverter cartridge leaking and dripping onto the molex connector to actuator.
PCB,doesnt usually blow the fuse in the spur.
