I have an ideal mini c28 boiler which always works fine on hot water, but when in heating mode & ran for about an hour fails to light. The fan runs but i get no spark. The boiler fault diagnosis says no ignition signal from the full sequence ignition device. I found 3 dry joints on that pcb & re solderded. Fan operates correctly & air pressure switch tested ok. Is the pcb a common fault, has anyone had this fault before & the pcb fixed it?

He either looked inside at the three LEDs after flicking a DIP switch or has a boiler with all three LEDs visible.

Now, to the OP. I have a little discomfort in advising you as I know that you have already opened the combustion chamber to access the air pressure switch. We have to advise that only a registered gas engineer should open that.

In your case if it works fine on DHW then I expect the problem is associated with the gas valve settings.

I cannot advise that you tamper with the gas valve.

Reducing the CH power on the control PCB will probably delay the onset of the problem you are experiencing. Check the pot TR4 and see if its at max clockwise. If so then turn it anticlockwise to min and then increase it by about 20° clockwise.

I know how you do it.............i'm just curious to whether he did it or just guessed his way through a fault finder by assumption.

I am a registered gas safe engineer with commercial experience only, & the domestic boiler qualification. I just wanted some experienced advice. The fault lights code is from the pcb & the manual. The fan is free & lubricated, the hoses clear. The high/low & ignition pressures are as per the manual. I dont like fitting parts untill i know they are the problem, & the fix.

As a registered engineer you can ask to be admitted to the CC where these trade questions are best asked.
