We have recently noticed that when the bath hot tap is switched off, there are a series of 7/8 tapping/creaking sounds coming from our boiler. If the heating is on at the same time, you just get a couple of tapping sounds before the heating kicks in again. We only get the sounds when hot water demand has been for more than a minute or so. Our engineer has commented before that our hot water is very hot and replaced the thermastat in case it had gone, but this made no difference. Does anyone know what is causing this?

Also, does anyone else have a Response with the same problems? Does anyone know what the average lifespan of a Response is - ours is nine years old?

The average life of the Responses which I have come across seems to be about 4-5 years.

However, I probably dont go to those which are working fine.

Your creaking may just be thermal contraction clicks. But without seeing it thats only a guess.
