Ideas for tree/plants with decent coverage to restore privacy

Evening all.

I’m in the process of working on the end of our garden. I’ve put a shed base down, new shed and new fences.

Unfortunately our elderly neighbour at the rear has cut down her large willow tree which we both relied on for privacy. I appreciate it is her tree but it would have been nice if she had mentioned it before she did it.
Anyway, we are looking to find a solution.

There is little room behind the shed to plant a tree. Also, I have started to lay a patio area at the end of the garden in the middle - so we are limited on what and where we can plant. I also do not want the roots damaging the patio or shed base.

I’m wondering if something like black bamboo may grow in the space behind the shed?

Can anyone suggest any trees that grow with a thin trunk but give good foliage coverage (and ideally with roots that are not too invasive)

Some photos are attached. A before, after and one to show the space behind the shed.

Thanks

That’s unfortunate- but at least you still have the other hedge. You want something that fills out above the fence line. Two or three 4 meter high Ligustrum superbum standard trees with 2 meter clear stems will keep their leaves all year round and grow nicely year on year to a 6-7 meter max height. Will be £600ish each for threes of that maturity but it’s more or less instant screening so depends how much it bothers you/how patient you want to be as screening planted on the cheap will take 15-20 years before it’s doing it’s job and maybe you won’t even live there by that point and enjoy the benefits!

That looks like the kind of thing we need and is evergreen too. Thanks for your suggestion - much appreciated
