Identify where drain goes

I have just found a drain survey for the house, doesn’t show anything on that side. Just manhole with straight run down to a buchan trap. Should there be access to a buchan trap above it?

Not always, some were made with the rodding access beyond the trap via a rodding eye above the outlet.

They were supplied with a plug in the rodding access to seal it off, but many of these plugs were displaced by back pressure in the main sewer, causing them to fall into the channel below and cause a blockage. They were often then just removed. Problem then arises when the trap blocks, but effluent continues to escape via the rodding eye for a time, until the sludge builds up and eventually the whole system blocks....

There’s another type where the shaft goes straight up to the surface, they are usually around a meter from the boundary.

Thanks for that. I’ll have to take a look once tree trunks have been removed that are currently sat on the drive
