What is the easiest way of doing this? I have two ends of a cable i suspect are the same. Is there a tool available that will run a small current along the cable so i could test for that current at the other end? Thanks in advance.

Yep.

Its called a multimeter.

If you can reach each end at the same time then just test end to end.

If not short L-E at one end and test between them at the other end. Also test L-E and N-E (there should be no reading.

Then remove the L-E short, and short the cable N-E, and retest at the other end again.

L_E and L-N should be no reading, and N-E should gine you a reading.

There may be something attached to the cable between end A & end B that you cannot see...

check for dead and shorts before starting on the short one end test the other procedure.
