Ikea KARLBY Worktop smooth it

Hi,

I have got KARLBY Worktop to use it for my desk. No one in YouTube channels mentioned that the surface would be rough
So how can I smooth it also keep the appearance similar, I have seen some YouTube suggested using Polyurethane coat.
Please suggest me what yo do.

The reviews don't mention it will be rough, either, so perhaps you've got a dud? The reviews are quite variable, so perhaps the quality control on this product isn't too good.
On the other hand, what do you mean by "rough"?
The normal suggestion for a piece of rough timber would be to sand it in progressively finer paper and then finish it with some kind of varnish.

It's a kitchen worktop that should be food safe upon delivery, if it's rough it's a dud.
