Hi

Just taken apart the waste after my wonderful wife blocked it up with tea leaves!

Problem is that having flushed the system with acid etc, water still won't drain properly unless I raise the flexible pipe running from the inaccessible "U-Bend" above the exit pipe in the wall.

Do I need to replace the waste, and if so, should I replace with Ikea fittings or can I use something more "user friendly" from B&Q?

I can supply pictures if necessary, your help is appreciated.

Ikea waste pipe assemblies are very bulky and generally best placed in the bin. Your best bet is to replace the whole assembly with a conventional trap setup. Sometimes you need to transfer over the sink overflow ffittings since these are not standard.

Sorry, what do you mean by "transfer over the sink overflow fitting"?

The sink overflow assembly is often custom designed to fit the sink overflow grating. You can normally fit a standard waste outlet to the Ikea sink and connect in the Ikea overflow parts ie the flexible hose (into the new waste fitting). Then by using a standard waste fitting you can then use a conventional P or S trap and rigid pipework that is less bulky and will not block.
