Hello,
I'm trying to arrange a simple internal pump head swap on my 11 year old Worcester Greenstar 24i Junior (in Oxfordshire).

Current pump: Grundfos/Bosch UPS 15-60 CHG (59596500) – recently failed, 11 yrs old
Replacement: Grundfos UPS4 GO 25-65 130 – head only
Confirmed by: Grundfos GO Replace app (official match – report attached)

System condition:
Recently flushed + inhibitor
Internal condensate siphon trap spotless
Pressure stable: 1.0–1.5 bar cold → 2.0–2.5 bar hot
New expansion vessel fitted
No pipework, no complications

Issue so far:
Most local engineers insist on Worcester OEM only or claim UPS4 GO is for external use only,
despite Grundfos confirming direct internal head fit (130mm, 4 screw, same electrics).

Looking for:
Gas Safe independent who’s fitted Grundfos heads in old combis
Happy to work with customer supplied, manufacturer verified part

Attachment: Grundfos GO Replace report (PDF)
If anyone local to Oxfordshire has experience with this pump, or can recommend someone suitable, please let me know.

Thanks

Not for 6 years now I'm afraid (but good memory!), I'm now in Northamptonshire.

That being said, happy to give advice. The potential issue with using the UPS4 is that older boiler circuit boards are sometimes incompatible with newer-style high efficiency circulators. This is because, despite the overall efficiency and running costs being lower, the initial inrush current on these new style circulators can be significantly higher than the boiler's circuit board is designed to handle. OEM circulators will come with either a suppressor lead or other suitable built-in means of mitigating these effects, whereas replacement heads not tested and approved by the boiler manufacturer may not have the same protections. The circulator manufacturer will not, of course, have tested every boiler to ensure that this "one size fits all" proposed solution will be suitable.

So yes, by all means put a UPS4 on it, but be aware that it might cost you a circuit board, and a second circulator head.

ERP pumps do use a lot less energy but far too many pre 2015 boilers being scrapped now because the pumps are tough to get hold of. With modern long warranties its getting more cost effective to just put a new boiler in.

Still it saves the environment doesn't it? :ROFLMAO:

I do go down to Chippy and Witney quite often but won't be there until mid December now
