Any ideas on how to seal a zinc tank - 30cm cube (a garden planter which I'm converting to a water feature) which has a 12mm hole in the bottom. I have tried a rubber bung and plenty of bathroom sealant as a washer but I think because the tank is thin walled and flexible the seal is easily broken.

Currently I'm experimenting with a piece of butyl rubber stuck over the hole with a flexible sealant but not sure if it will work but I'm hoping the weight of the water will keep this patch in place. Is there a recommended glue/mastic for bonding rubber to metal?

Any other ideas really appreciated.

nut and bolt, large washer either side of the hole, underneath the washers you would put pieces of rubber, done this at the top of a car rad, still working.

For the rubber use a couple of tap washers, few pence each.

i would suggest a combination of all above.

rubber washers, bolt and genuine silicone on inside.

get the biggest washers you can, too small it may pull through corroding area
