Hi all, first time post...

My uncle has a problem with his immersion cylinder. It is fed by a coal fired back boiler and with the immersion element. Problem is that when the coal fire is on the water in the cylinder is causing the thermal cut-out on the thermostat to trip. It works fine if it is just being used via the heating element. Obviously the cut-out is doing it's job properly...

Is there any way around this problem? The cylinder is in the attic of his cottage so is a pain in the backside to access every time the cut-out trips off. Is there any means of regulating the water from the back boiler or perhaps installing a remote (accessable) reset for the stat cut -out

Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

As we are in our summer its surprising that people are still running heating.

Most coal back boilers have a damper which restricts the amount of heat going into the water heating.

Thats either not there, fully open or needs adjustment.

He lives beside the sea in the north of Scotland, so not the warmest place, even in the summer!

I'll advise him to get in touch with a plumber to check the back boiler to see if it has a regulator.

Thanks for that.
