What about all the Irish and Italian immigrants who helped build our industry like docks, roads, railways, and factories in the 18th and 19th centuries?
Tiny numbers of them helped build stuff, true, as contracted labour by British engineers and industrialists. I worked in other countries for long spells myself in the 80s and 90s, for money, but I don't claim to have built those countries. What I am totally opposed to is the modern lie that Britain was almost entirely built by foreigners whilst the useless British did nowt. You will read elsewhere on this forum that the rebuilding of Britain after Ww2 was all done by immigrants, yet you cannot find these people in official population records, in any significant number.
Why is splineless criticising immigrants who helped build Britain?
Helped, in small numbers.

very small numbers, certainly not to the point of either shaped or built Britain..

It may have been mentioned earlier in the thread, but Irish navvies basically dug the canal network by hand.

Respect.:notworthy:

The Oirish played a big part, about 500,000 came over in the 1800's to help build out canals and were always (maybe only until recent decades) a large part of the building industry.
Were they immigrants though?, before 1920 it was part of the UK and after that they had an automatic freedom of movement agreement which is how my lot rocked up.

In fairness, later on some of them developed a propensity for blowing the country up.

They dug the canals alongside men from other parts of Britain - you left that bit out.

Also mentioned earlier in the thread, Irishmen were, at the time, British.

Respect to them all.

Don't forget Britain's roads and railways either. And reservoirs and water infrastructure. Built by British engineering and British labour, in horrible conditions - particularly in the north. Many died so that you can defame their memory in comfort.

Immigrants still helped though, like they helped with building a lot of British industry.
