This might be a stupid question but I am trying to think outside the Box, since lpg is going up and wages staying the same!!

Here we go!!!

I have a 10+ old boiler and it works well. It has a high and low setting on the boiler. Would putting a thermostat on the outlet pipe of the boiler improve efficientcy? Currently untill the room stat goes to temp the boiler is going flat out. The temperature of the return water must be quite high, so would it be a good idear to have the pump going without boiler. i'm not sure what temperature it runs at but for argument sake I will say 60C. I could set a thermostat to turn off at a lower temp and turn on when it gets to 50C. Surely it uses more energy maintaining a high temp than it does to just reach it.

I am really curious about this. If I have explained this in an crap way and anyone understands me. Could you re-write the question or just answer it.

Many thanks for taking the time

The boiler has its own thermostat.

It uses less energy maintaining a temperature than it does achieving it.

Your best best it so to insulate the pipes and property as much as possible and make sure your system controls are fully programmable and independent.

TRVs, by-pass, Programmable room stat, cylinder thermostat, insulated cylinder,.

If op currently had a radiator instead of bypass is it just a case of replacing that rad with a bypass?

Does every one agree?

By-pass?
TRVs - I have read that they dont make that much difference!!

Are you sure my old boiler has its own thermostat?

My boiler has no setting for thermostat with numbers just High and Low

If he adds a DU145 (for example), then the energy wasted is minimised as the by-pass only opens when needed and thus any rads not required can safely be turned down or off.
Saving that energy.

The iTemp valves are also rather effective, although not sure if the batteries offset the savings.

Yuo won't make the boiler any more efficient than it is a new Condensing boiler would use less gas for the same output however you can improve your system by fitting controls as already stated a programmable room stat such as a Honeywell CM type would save fuel good insulation would also be of benefit are you using LPG from a bulk tank or the more expensive Red cylinders? a bulk tank is cheaper to fill
